WHCP Radio (91.7 FM) is excited to bring the Reigning Queen of the Blues - six-time Grammy Nominated, multiple Blues Music Association winner - Shemekia Copeland to the Avalon Theatre on Friday, August 2nd in an anniversary fundraiser for the Mid-Shore's only Community Radio station! Her last performance at the Avalon was SOLD OUT!

Shemekia is a powerhouse performer, who possesses one of the most instantly recognizable and deeply soulful roots music voices of our time, and has performed thousands of gigs at clubs, festivals and concert halls all over the world, and in films, on national television, NPR, and has been the subject of major feature stories in hundreds of magazines, newspapers and internet publications. She is beloved worldwide for the fearlessness, honesty and humor of her revelatory music, as well as for delivering each song with unmatched passion. Shemekia sings with “punchy defiance and potent conviction.” “Shemekia Copeland is the greatest blues singer of her generation.” – The Washington Post

Winner of the 2021 Blues Music Award for B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year, Copeland connects with her audience on an intensely personal level, taking them with her on what The Wall Street Journal calls “a consequential ride” of “bold and timely blues.”

Shemekia Copeland is presented thanks to WHCP's Blues dynamo Dr. Donna, host of the weekly "Lady Spins the Blues". This event is the culmination of a week-long anniversary celebration of WHCP's sign-on bringing Music Discovery and NPR as the only Local Community Radio station serving the Mid-Shore of Maryland.

Doors will open at 7 p.m., for a reception to meet some of the WHCP on-air and behind the scenes staff.
