MCTV - “The Interns” Video Production Internship
Written on Mon, 2016-04-25 15:09 by Jessica
What is it? MCTV’s “The Interns” program is a competitive, unpaid summer internship program for middle and high school students who are interested in video production, theatre arts, writing, graphic editing, and/or journalism. The program is designed to provide basic instruction and hands on experience with production techniques, equipment, and working in a dynamic group environment.
Selected interns will meet up to 3 times a week for a total of approximately 8 hours. They will be responsible for developing a new program titled “The Interns” for Talbot County’s public access channel MCTV-15. The team of selected interns must produce at least 4 episodes (Approximately 15 minutes long) of the program in order to meet the expectations of the program.
“The Interns” will be a high quality and entertaining television program that connects with local issues or people. At least 2 minutes of each episode must relate to the work of the Avalon Foundation. The format of the show will be decided by the Interns, including but not limited to a scripted sitcom, a variety show, a news broadcast, or a talk show. All concepts and episodes must be approved by the Avalon Foundation management. The program must be filmed at the MCTV studios or in downtown Easton.
Interns should be prepared to aid in every step of the production of this program. They will work to develop the theme of each episode, arrange interviews or talent, storyboard shots, produce episodes, edit video, create graphic content, promote the program, and adhere to a budget.
The program will run from the week of June 20, 2016-August 15, 2016
Why? In today’s competitive college admissions market, a student is faced with the task of setting him or herself apart from other applicants. Colleges look for students who dedicate themselves to activities and projects. Admissions officers look for students who demonstrate interesting and diverse qualities, not just those who spend all of their time studying. Colleges need and want students who are committed to activities that they are passionate about.
A recent list of the “top ten summer activities that will turn admissions heads“ included the following: volunteer, take a class, intern, work on a charity project, and create an online presence. This internship program serves all of these purposes. Oh and it should be fun!
Who may apply? Students in 8-12 grade
How many will be chosen? 5-7 Interns will be chosen for “The Interns” show – unless it is deemed that more are needed
What is expected? It is expected that the selected interns treat their time at the Avalon Foundation like a job. The Avalon is a professional environment seeking to provide these interns with valuable work experience. Interns must be on time and meet production deadlines. Each intern will receive an exit evaluation at the end of the program.
What are the deadlines? Applications are due no later than 5pm, on May 20 and should sent to nick@avalonfoundation.org
